Two distinctive experiences

A fishing day shaped around the river and you

Brown trout and grayling reward thoughtful fishing, careful presentation and an understanding of changing river conditions. Bill will recommend the most realistic option for your visit—not simply the nearest available water.

Spring to early autumn

Brown trout fishing

Explore rivers with wild brown trout using dry flies, nymphs or wet flies as conditions dictate. Hatches, river level and daylight all influence the best place and time to fish.

Seasonal guidance

When to fish for trout and grayling

These are useful planning patterns, not promises. Local rules, river levels, temperature, daylight and insect activity determine the final recommendation.

Mar–May

Spring

Brown trout activity develops as water warms. Late morning through afternoon can be productive; grayling spawning periods are treated with care.

Jun–Aug

Summer

Long days create varied trout opportunities, including evening fishing when weather, water temperature and access are suitable.

Sep–Nov

Autumn

Early autumn can suit trout before local seasons close. Attention then turns increasingly towards grayling where fishing is permitted.

Dec–Feb

Winter

Grayling can provide excellent cold-season sport. Safe access, river level and weather remain central to the choice of water.

Important: seasons and access vary between fisheries. Your proposal will confirm what is available and appropriate for your dates.

Real days on Scottish water

“Fantastic day. Caught my first grayling and had a nice day with James. Learned a lot as well.”

Mike — USA

Every day is different. The aim is honest planning, enjoyable fishing and useful guidance—not an unrealistic promise about what wild fish will do.

Spring, summer and early autumn can all offer good fishing. Local seasons, daylight, water temperature, river level and insect activity influence the best dates and times.

When is the best time for grayling fishing?

Opportunities may exist through much of the year where rules and access allow. Autumn and winter can be particularly attractive, while spring spawning periods are treated with care.

Can complete beginners book this day?

Yes. Tuition is adapted to your pace, from setting up and casting to reading the water and handling fish responsibly.

Can you arrange equipment and permits?

Yes. Suitable rods, flies, waders, boots and fishing permits can be arranged when required. Tell us sizes and requirements when enquiring.

Can we fish for both species in one trip?

Sometimes. It depends on the season, conditions, location and access. Bill will recommend what is realistic for your dates.

No. Wild fishing is affected by weather, river conditions and fish behaviour. Your guide will help you make the most of the day, but no responsible guide can guarantee a catch.
